What is ASAP?

ASAP is a non-profit organization established to eliminate unnecessary destruction of homeless pets.

To accomplish this goal, we encourage the adoption of homeless animals from shelters.  We hope that by finding more new homes for the pets currently held in animal shelters, we can eliminate the unnecessary euthanasia of pets that occurs every day, simply because there is not enough space and there are too many animals.

ASAP is also taking steps to return more lost pets to their owners quicker, and to reduce the number of strays that are brought in to shelters.

Ultimately, the long term solution to this problem must include reducing the animal population through encouraging spaying and neutering.  ASAP supports spay and neuter assistance programs to help pay for surgery for owned animals as well as for those in our shelters.

ASAP is currently focusing its resources on San Luis Obispo County, where it is located.  Our successes here will be shared with other shelters and groups throughout California and the country.

ASAP created, produces, and edits "Rescue Me!" a thirty minute weekly television show that presents every animal at the San Luis Obispo County Animal Shelter.  The production, seen 11 times each week on Charter Cable's Public Access Channel 2, has become a favorite around the county.  More importantly, it has drawn many new adopters to the shelter.  We are hopeful that we can soon expand to include other SLO Shelters in regular editions of "Rescue Me! - On The Road"
